"I felt lifted to a new understanding of myself in the world like never before."

The Kintsugi Circle

Ask any actor, athlete or soldier and they will tell you the place where they experience real joy and personal growth is in the rehearsal room, on the practice field or on the training ground.

The performance, the game and the battle are merely opportunities to show that growth to
 other people.

Whether our readers are professionally-trained actors, students, everyday people or the participants, clients, volunteers or staff in various social-service programs, our rehearsals at Broken Shoulders are conducted in what we call a Kintsugi Circle.

----------

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of pottery rejoining.

This rejoining of shattered pieces is done with gold- or silver-dusted lacquer, thereby highlighting rather than hiding the cracks between pieces and enforcing a new vision of the piece in which beauty is found in the now-flawed, but repaired bowls, pots and cups.

So it can be for the scars and wounds in human beings.

----------

A Kintsugi Circle is a grouping of people dedicated to discovering, rejoining, and being inspired by their wounds.

While the presentation of the current script is the immediate objective at Broken Shoulders, the ultimate goal is helping those who conduct our readings in How To Act – in the reading, on other stages and, hopefully, in life.

It’s in these rehearsals that
The Broken Shoulders Project
expresses its true uniqueness
from all other organizations.

What Readers Are Saying:

At first, I looked forward to my reading with some trepidation. Turns out I'm having great fun.

I [was] energized by his rich dramatic writing in a way I have rarely experienced as an actress in other plays.

Tim is a powerful writer and challenges us to confront the deepest tragedies of life.
